After failing multiple drug tests, UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping thinks UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones should be banned from the UFC.
Last month, it was revealed Jones tested positive for using performance-enhancing drugs. Jones’ failed test came from a sample taken the day before he regained his title by knocking out Daniel Cormier at UFC 214.
Bisping recently shared his thoughts on Jones during an interview with Sports Illustrated.
“I think it’s fair to say that he has definitely tarnished his legacy,” Bisping says.
Bisping went on to say Jones will be remembered for his amazing performances inside the Octagon, but his decisions outside the cage have harmed his reputation.
Bisping was later asked if he thought Jones should be banned from the sport since this is his second time testing positive for PEDs.
“I believe so. If you have a history of performance enhancing drugs, I think there is no place for it,” Bisping said.
“This is a vicious sport. We’re not trying to put a ball in a basket. You can dress it up however you want to but we are trying to beat out opponents into submission or knock them out. Performance-enhancing drugs have no place in this sport.”
With Jones failing a second drug test from the U.S Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), he could be suspended for up to four years. If suspended, he may also be stripped of his UFC title and may have his win over Cormier overturned.
Bisping is scheduled to defend his title against former UFC champion Georges St-Pierre at UFC 217 on Nov. 4 in New York City.
