Bellator Fighter Arrested Following Bank Robbery In New York

An MMA fighter has been arrested for allegedly robbing a bank in Queens, New York.

Sergio da Silva, who recently fought for Bellator MMA, was arrested after robbing a Citibank of approximately $50,000.

According to a report by TMZ Sports, police were able to identify Silva as the armed robber due to fingerprints at the scene of the crime. Police arrested Silva Thursday morning.

According to police and surveillance footage, Silva wore a black ski mask and jumped over the counter at the bank. He claimed to have a gun and said he would shoot people if he wasn’t given what he wanted.

Silva last fought back in June at Bellator 180, which was Bellator’s first event to take place at the historic Madison Square Garden in New York City. On that night, Silva was submitted by Matthew Rizzo.

Silva has an overall 6-9 MMA record. Early in his career, he lost a decision to UFC bantamweight contender Aljamain Sterling.
