Former UFC bantamweight champion Miesha Tate faced off against Amanda Nunes at UFC 200 for her first title defense.
“I just knew after like the first exchange that I just didn’t want to do it anymore. So it was just kind of one of those things that just like stuck it out but I knew I had a lot more to give and I just didn’t give it. I don’t know. It’s just one of those things. It’s kind of odd, to be honest. But yeah, just lacking a little bit of the competitive edge to want to punch people in the face… I planned on winning that fight and going on another title run but at the end of that I just knew.” Tate said when asked about her sudden retirement.
While the fight did not go Tate’s way, the fighter was seen in great shape leading up to the event.
A month away from UFC 200, Miesha Tate took to Instagram to state “Dreams don’t work unless you do! I am working hard day in and day out and my body is leaning out once again preparing for battle! I am ahead of schedule and fully prepared to make my first title defense july 9th #UFC200 #AndStill”
