On Saturday, UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes successfully defended her championship for the second time.
In the main event of UFC 215, Nunes fought top contender Valentina Shevchenko for the second time inside the Octagon.
For 25 minutes, Nunes and Shevchenko fought in a back-and-forth battle. Nunes looked good early in the fight, but as time went on, Shevchenko became more aggressive and threw more shots. Throughout the fight, Shevchenko managed to land more strikes in the fight. However, in round five, Nunes was able to take Shevchenko down and made her fight off her back for the majority of the round.
In the end, two of the three judges awarded the fight to Nunes giving her a split decision victory.
This was the second time Nunes won a decision against Shevchenko. Last year, Nunes won a three-round decision against Shevchenko prior to winning the UFC title.
