On Saturday, one of the most highly anticipated UFC title fights of the year took place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
In the main event of UFC 215, UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes defended her title against top contender Valentina Shevchenko.
Nunes and Shevchenko fought in a back-and-forth battle for 25 minutes with both women had shining moments throughout their fight.
Nunes appeared to be the better fighter in the first round, but as the fight went on, Shevchenko became more aggressive. Throughout the middle rounds of the fight, Shevchenko landed more strikes in than the UFC champion.
In the final round, Nunes secured the first takedown of the fight and forced Shevchenko to fight off of her back for a large portion of the round.
When the fight was over, Nunes retained her title after the judges awarded her with a split-decision victory.
During her post-fight interview, Shevchenko was livid and was upset with the judges’ decision.
