UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov says the UFC told him he will fight the winner of next month’s interim lightweight title fight in December.
On Oct. 7, UFC lightweight contenders Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee will fight for an interim title in the main event of UFC 216.
During a recent interview with a Russian news outlet, Nurmagomedov said the UFC told him he will fight the winner of Ferguson vs. Lee at a UFC event in December.
“If Kevin Lee wins and he does not have injuries, then we fight him on Dec. 2 in Detroit (UFC 218). And if Tony Ferguson wins, then you’re fighting on Dec. 30 (UFC 219),” Nurmagomedov said (translated via Google Translate). “With the winner of this pair, you’re fighting in December. We’ll just wait for the fight. And in a couple of days, they will give an answer. I do not know if they can be trusted.”
Nurmagomedov went on to say that he hopes Ferguson wins so they can settle their rivalry. He says Lee is a good fighter, but he believes Ferguson will earn a victory.
