UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is looking to get back to winning after his knockout defeat to Jon Jones was overturned. Once again crowned the division champion, Cormier has already picked out his next opponent. Taking to social media, the title holder offered a poll to fans. After the voting had completed, it was decided by the fans that Volkan Oezdemir would be the next fighter to take on Cormier. Still, fellow contender and former opponent to “D.C.,” Alexander Gustafsson is willing to wait for his shot at the title.
Gustafsson and Cormier first met at UFC 192, with Gustafsson facing a tough split decision loss to the champion. Speaking to Viaplay Fighting within a recent Facebook post, Gustafsson explained that he is not going anywhere.
“Daniel [Cormier] knows I’m here to stay. I’m waiting for my rematch against him. I’m not in a hurry. I’ve had longer stretches between fights than this. I’ll be fine.”
Finishing his thoughts on the matter, Gustafsson added:
“I want the belt. I want a title fight. We’ll see if Volkan vs. Cormier gets confirmed. Then I’ll fight the winner and … I’m pretty sure I’ll fight ‘DC.’”
