It wasn’t an easy night for former top ranked UFC middleweight fighter Gegard Mousasi, who took his free-agency to Bellator amid his dominant run inside the UFC.
Mousasi didn’t think much of Alexander Shlemenko’s skills heading into their main event at Bellator 185.
“He’s not very technical. He doesn’t try to outsmart you.” Mousasi said in an interview with MMAmania. “He’s a tough opponent (but) he’s just trying to win by being the tougher guy. I think the difference between him and me is I’m a lot smarter in the way I’m going to fight. I’m coming with a gameplan, I know what to expect from him. He comes to fight, I come to win, I think there’s a big difference.”
In what was meant to be his coming out party on SPIKE TV, the crafty veteran was overwhelmed by Shlemenko’s strikes often, which accumulated damage and by the end had most onlookers thinking Mousasi lost the fight.
That wasn’t the case though. Gegard Mousasi ended up walking away with a unanimous decision after three rounds in tonight’s Bellator main event.
All three judges scored the bout 29-28, 29-28, 29-28.
