After suffering a rear-naked choke loss to UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, light heavyweight title contender Anthony Johnson announced his retirement from the sport of mixed martial arts.
“It’s just business,” Johnson said. “I want to do something besides going to the gym everyday punching and kicking and rolling around with another dude. That sh*t gets old. I’ve been doing this for so long, I’ve been in sports since I was 8, it’s just time to move on to something different. I won’t say better, but just different.” said Anthony Johnson during an edition of The MMA Hour this past April.
Now, it would appear that the fighter may be returning to the octagon after all.
The No. 1 contender during his tenure in the light heavyweight division, “Rumble” has taken on some of the UFC’s greatest athletes. Inside the WSOF banner in 2013, Johnson defeated former heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski in a bloody war that has made its way into the MMA history books. Now, it would appear that Anthony Johnson is greatly considering returning to the UFC in the heavyweight division.
On today’s edition of The MMA Hour, Ali Abdelaziz revealed the news that Anthony “Rumble” Johnson will soon be meeting with the UFC to discuss his potential return to the octagon within the heavyweight division.
Now, only time will tell if the former title contender will make his way back to the mixed martial arts promotion.
