Confirmed: McGregor Wants To Return Before Year’s End — ‘Ferguson fight has to happen’

UFC superstar Conor McGregor is riding the payday of his career right now.

For his professional boxing debut, “Notorious” went toe-to-toe with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. inside the T-Mobile Arena this summer.

McGregor would go on to suffer a TKO loss to the undefeated boxing phenom in the tenth round. Still, McGregor is believed to have profited $100 million from the highly anticipated event.

Since the cross-promotional throw down, fight fans have been on the edge of their seats waiting to hear what will be next for the UFC lightweight champion. Now it would appear that the fans have an answer.

UFC 216 went down last night with a lightweight showdown between Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee in the night’s main event. Ferguson would go on to submit Lee for the interim lightweight title. In the UFC 216 post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White revealed that Conor McGregor will be facing Tony Ferguson the next time he enters the octagon.

Explaining that the lightweight title needs to be unified, Dana White explained:

“It’s the fight that has to happen. It doesn’t ‘make sense.’ It’s the fight that has to happen.”

Dana White then revealed that he has talked to Conor McGregor and “Notorious” wants to fight sometime this year.

“We didn’t specifically talk about it, but we talked about it kinda. He wants to fight again this year. He went and partied in Ibiza for a while and went back home for a while. You’ve got to let him blow off some steam, and then we’ll figure it out.”
