Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Conor McGregor attempted to take over the world of boxing this summer. Spinning the combat sports world into a frenzy, the UFC megastar scored a professional boxing debut against pugilist legend Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The two threw down inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. in August. While “Notorious” gave it his all, the fighter suffered a TKO defeat to Mayweather in the tenth round. While McGregor may have failed to take over the boxing world with his big debut, “Notorious” still walked away with the payday of his career. The fighter is estimated to have gained $100 million from the highly anticipated cross-promotional match up.
Following the fight UFC President Dana White made it clear that, while he was impressed by McGregor’s performance, he’s ready for the lightweight champion to return to the octagon. That being said, it would appear that the UFC president is not quite ready to rule out the possibility of a rematch against the 50-0 boxing legend.
Appearing on the Pardon My Take podcast, he commented on the possibility of a rematch between McGregor and Mayweather.
“I never say never but I doubt it.” said Dana White.
In the meantime, newly crowned interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson is looking to unify his belt in a battle against “Notorious” back inside the octagon. Only time will tell which fight will be the UFC superstar’s next.
