California is currently suffering a massive wildfire that has forced over 20,000 people to evacuate and has destroyed over 1,5000 homes. Spreading across eight counties in northern California, the wildfire has put many lives in danger. Among them, UFC flyweight Henry Cejudo recently escaped a dangerous situation while on an Olympic retreat.
Staying in a hotel, Cejudo was reportedly forced to jump out of a second story balcony in order to escape the approaching flames of the ensuing wildfire. Cejudo suffered an injury on his foot from the incident. That being said, it would appear that the fighter still plans on competing at this year’s UFC 218.
Ali Abdelaziz, Cejudo’s manager, confirmed to MMA Junkie that Cejudo will still be fighting on Dec. 2 for UFC 218. Speaking on how the fighter is doing, Abdelaziz stated:
“He woke up to the fire alarm, but he thought it was just a false alarm so he went back to sleep. He woke up at 4 a.m. to his room being filled with smoke. He had no choice but to jump (from the balcony) on the second floor. He landed on some fire and burned his foot. He’s safe.”
Henry Cejudo is set to take on Sergio Pettis at UFC 218 on Dec. 2 inside Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
