It would appear that Georges St-Pierre is making an alliance with a former opponent in preparation for his octagon return. This time, the former UFC welterweight champion has recruited Strikeforce phenom Jake Shields to his training camp.
Georges St. Pierre has been away from MMA for nearly four years now. That being said, one of the UFC’s historically most dominant welterweights had decided to make an octagon return in a new division. “Rush” is set to take UFC middleweight champion Michael “The Count” Bisping in the UFC 217 pay-per-view event on Nov. 4.
St-Pierre has claimed that he is going for a finish in his fight with Bisping, after receiving criticism from “The Count” for his tendency to wrestle his opponents rather than strike with them. That being said, “Rush” appears to have recruited grappling phenom Jake Shields to his training camp.
Former Strikeforce champion Jake Shields has put on a storied career in mixed martial arts. With his impressive wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Shields has taken on some of the best. Shields and St-Pierre faced off back in 2011 at UFC 129. Going the distance, the two fighters entered a war. But, Shields ultimately suffered a unanimous decision loss to his opponent.
Jake Shields recently took to Instagram to reveal that he is now helping Georges St. Pierre prepare for his upcoming title fight.
“Helping GSP get ready for his return!”
