Legendary boxing coach Freddie Roach has taken Georges St-Pierre under his wing, training the former champion on his striking ahead of George St-Piere’s return to the UFC. Roach recently revealed that he will even be cornering Georges St-Pierre for his upcoming title fight. Now, the acclaimed coach is saying that “Rush” is going to beat UFC megastar Conor McGregor.
Georges St-Pierre put on a dominant run in the UFC’s welterweight division. Nearly four years ago, “Rush” retired from the sport of mixed martial arts on a 12 fight winning streak while still holding the welterweight title. Now Georges St-Pierre has decided to make his return to the octagon, though the former champion will be making his return at a different weight.
Georges St-Pierre is set to take on UFC middleweight champion Michael “The Count” Bisping in the UFC 217 pay-per-view main event on Nov. 4 inside the Madison Square Garden Arena in New York. In preparation for the fight, Georges St-Pierre has been under the tutelage of boxing’s Freddie Roach. In an interview with TMZ Sports, Freddie Roach responded to being asked if he could train UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor into being a successful boxer. Freddie Roach was not confident in his ability to train the UFC megastar, but then explained that Georges St-Pierre can take out “Notorious.”
Freddie Roach said:
“GSP is gonna kick his ass.”
Of Course, Conor McGregor has already made his professional boxing debut. Taking on boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr., McGregor suffered a tenth round TKO loss to the still undefeated boxing phenom in one of the year’s most highly anticipated sporting events.
