The reigning UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk is very confident that’s she’s head and shoulders above anyone in the division. Joanna has been one of the most dominant champions in the UFC and is also unbeaten in her mixed martial arts career.
After dismantling much of the strawweight division Jedrzejczyk is looking towards future career goals and challenges, one of which includes the UFC’s newly formed flyweight (125lbs) division.
“I’m very excited that the UFC made this decision to bring the new division,” Jedrzejczyk said. “I was looking at the 125 division, but it was at that time when I had such big problems with making weight, with making 115. But that time, I didn’t work with Perfecting Athletes. Right now I feel great. I put on weight. I feel strong. I feel healthy. And I make my weight easy. I can fight at 115, but maybe next year I will make this decision to move up and I will, of course, defend both titles.”
Before she can think of another UFC title, Joanna will need to get by a very tough Rose Namajunas at UFC 217. However, if Jedrzejczyk is victorious she’ll have surpassed Ronda Rousey’s title defense record which is another big achievement on the champs resume.
“I love Ronda Rousey,” Joanna said. “We have a very good relationship, and like I said so many times, she has done so much for this sport, for the UFC and not only for the female fighters. Of course, it’s all about winning the fight, defending the title and about the records. It’s going to be nice that I will tie Ronda Rousey’s record after I win against Rose Namajunas. But I’m looking forward, because I want to defend my strawweight belt in 2018. And then I will see. Maybe I will move up.”
One thing is for sure, Jedrzejczyk doesn’t think her opponents are ready for what she’s bringing into the octagon.
“I’m ready for all of them but I don’t think they’re ready for me” – Joanna Jedrzejczyk told the media at the UFC 217 press conference.
