Top ranked UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov hasn’t been in the octagon since his win over Michael Johnson at UFC 205 last year. Nurmagomedov was scheduled to face Tony Ferguson as UFC 209 but was forced to pull out at the very last minute when his weight cut went downhill.
“I feel a little bit better (towards Tony Ferguson). But to be honest, you know when you want to smash somebody so badly, how do you feel about this guy?” Nurmagomedov told RT. “This is my dream fight – a fight with Tony Ferguson. I know I pulled out, but he pulled out one time, too. But nobody talked when he pulled out. When I pull out – everybody talks about this. But it’s ok. Inshallah (God willing) I will come back and we’ll see what happens.”
Since that time Nurmagomedov has had back surgery and says he’s ready to continue his quest towards the UFC lightweight title. It was announced last week that he would be facing Edson Barboza at UFC 219 this December and “The Eagle” is already back in the gym preparing for his lightweight showdown with Barboza.
