Khabib Gives Tony Ferguson Respect For The Very First Time, In Post UFC 216 Reaction

UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov has not always seen eye to eye with interim UFC lightweight champ Tony Ferguson.

Tony Ferguson has been on the warpath for the UFC lightweight title for some time now. “El Cucuy” was initially set to face off for the interim title at UFC 209.

However, things were simply not meant to be.

Top contender Khabib Nurmagomedov was scheduled to face Ferguson for the title in the night’s co-main event. However, “The Eagle” suffered weight management issues that forced him to be rushed to the hospital. As a result, the fight suffered a last moment removal. That being said, Tony Ferguson landed another shot at the title just last night.

UFC 216 went down Saturday night inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. Headlining the pay-per-view event, Tony Ferguson faced off against Kevin Lee for the interim lightweight title. Kevin Lee put on an impressive display against “El Cucuy,” but ultimately suffered a submission loss to Ferguson.

Following the event, Khabib Nurmagomedov took to Twitter to give the new interim champion his respect. Here is what “The Eagle” had to say:

“Great performance @TonyFergusonXT My congratulations. You deserve this belt.#December @ufc @danawhite”
