Khabib Nurmagomedov has had a bit of a stumble in his mixed martial arts career as of late. “The Eagle” made his way to the top of the UFC lightweight division. As the No. 1 contender, the fighter was set to face off against Tony Ferguson for the interim title at UFC 209. That being said, the UFC 209 pay-per-view co-main event would never come to pass.
Nurmagomedov never made his way to the weigh-ins for the match up, as the fighter was rushed to the hospital due to weight complication issues. As a result, “The Eagle” was pulled from UFC 209 and Ferguson would go on to win the interim title at UFC 216.
“I feel a little bit better (towards Tony Ferguson). But to be honest, you know when you want to smash somebody so badly, how do you feel about this guy?” Nurmagomedov told RT. “This is my dream fight – a fight with Tony Ferguson. I know I pulled out, but he pulled out one time, too. But nobody talked when he pulled out. When I pull out – everybody talks about this. But it’s ok. Inshallah (God willing) I will come back and we’ll see what happens.”
Now it would appear that Nurmagomedov is gearing up for another performance inside the octagon. Taking to social media, the fighter responded to one fan’s questions as to when Nurmagomedov will be competing again. In response, “The Eagle” said “30 December.”
UFC 219 is set to take place Dec. 30 inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. However, no fights have yet to be officially announced for the upcoming fight card.
