Man Enters MMA Event as a Fan, Leaves as a Champion

An MMA fan didn't plan to be fighting at the event he attended, but not only did he fight, but he's now the champion.

The mixed martial arts event Juiz de Fora Fight 18 has had an exceptional unexpected outcome. A humble fan of mixed martial arts stepped into the cage and won it all.

As reported by MMA Fighting, Juiz de Fora Fight 18 was initially set to feature Carlos Eduardo Rufino and Claudinei Kall fight for the 170 pound title for the night’s main event. However, Carlos Eduardo Rufino missed weight by almost a pound. Not happy with the situation, Claudinei Kall ultimately elected to pull out of the event. Of course, Kall waited until near moments before their fight to pull out.

Luis Felipe Alvim, 22-years-old, is a black belt in Muay Thai and a huge fan of mixed martial arts. Attending the event to support some of his competing friends, Alvim would go on to volunteer to replace Kall.

Alvim told MMA Fighting:

“I told Felipe Silva [Alvim’s Coach] I’d fight, that I’d put on a show, but a new fight was already booked. Forty minutes before the main event, this guy chickened out and they offered me the fight again.”

Landing the main event spot, Alvim began his ascension from fan to champion. Speaking on the fight, Alvim told MMA Fighting:

“He took me down and landed some heavy shots, and I though ‘oh sh*t, what the f*ck am I doing here? When I locked the triangle I thought to myself, ‘sh*t, I’ll catch him.’ I asked God ‘please, don’t let this round end,’ and he tapped.”
