MMA Legend Takanori Gomi Says He’s No Longer A UFC Fighter

Highly regarded as one of the best lightweight fighter of his era, longtime PRIDE FC champion Takanori Gomi has just announced his return to the Japanese MMA scene, as a RIZIN fighter.

Gomi signed with the UFC in 2010, but has not had a lot of success.

Over the course of his tenure with The Ultimate Fighting Championship, the legendary knockout artist would go just 4-9 over the course of his seven-year stint.

Gomi returned to action in September, suffering his fourth straight loss, all of which came in the first round of action.

It’s likely that both his camp and the UFC agreed that at this stage in his career, he’s no longer qualified for the octagon.

Taking to his verified Instagram account, Gomi released the update on his fighting career.

It’s short but sweet:

“Return to the ring of Japan soon __ # New Year’s Eve”. (Translated)
