UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has put on a dominant performance in his mixed martial arts career. Starting in 2009, Cormier has faced a hoard of some of the best competitors in the sport. Ending a 15 fight winning streak, Cormier suffered his first lost in 2015. Taking on a contender for greatest of all time, Cormier went the distance with Jon “Bones” Jones. But in the end, Cormier suffered a unanimous decision loss to his opponent.
Ever since that defeat, Cormier has been looking to avenge the only loss to tarnish his record. Forming a heated rivalry with “Bones,” the two light heavyweight phenoms finally faced off in a highly anticipated rematch earlier this year. For the UFC 214 pay-per-view main event, Cormier and Jones went toe-to-toe for the belt. Jones would go on to earn a knockout victory over Cormier, making for one of Cormier’s darkest professional moments.
While the fight would later be overturned, as Jon Jones failed his UFC 214 drug test, the knockout loss was still hard on Cormier. Directly after the fight, Cormier began weeping inside the octagon. During his post-fight interview, the fighter was deeply emotional and teary eyed.
Now a newly released video from the moment has revealed something rather touching. Referee “Big” John McCarthy, the official inside the octagon for their main event rematch, embraced Daniel Cormier and attempted to console him after his tough knockout loss.
Of course after it was revealed that Jon Jones failed his drug test, Daniel Cormier was reinstated as the UFC light heavyweight champion. Now the fighter is looking to get back in the winning column with his next title defense.
