Nik Lentz Releases Statement On Pulling Out Of UFC 216 On 24-Hours Notice

Tonight’s UFC 216 fight card is one of the most stacked events of 2017.

And despite losing Paige VanZant vs. Jessica eye last week, heading into yesterday morning the fight card remained pretty much intact.

During yesterday’s weigh-ins, one fighter never showed. Instead, longtime UFC veteran Nik Lentz found himself in the hospital with some startling symptoms.

The highly-respected UFC veteran released a statement explaining what happened to him, and though he has no answers as to why this week’s weight cut took it’s tole like this, he offers no excuses and instead apologizes for not making fight night.

Here’s the full statement from UFC lightweight contender Nik Lentz.

“I didn’t make it to weigh ins this morning because I was in the hospital. My body is not responding to insulin correctly and during my weight cut last night my feet and hands went numb, I stopped sweating, my heart rate went through the roof and I didn’t know what was going on. I decided to go to the hospital and stayed there through the night into the morning. I’m not sure just yet as to the diagnosis of what’s happening, but I’m having diabetic like issues. I figured I could push through them and still fight. I was wrong. I’m sorry to everyone involved. I bit off more than I could chew and even though my health problem is not my fault, I should have handled it differently. God bless everyone for their support throughout my camp. I will be back soon.”

UFC 216 goes down from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The night’s main card airs live on pay-per-view.
