Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. pulled himself out of retirement this year for one final performance inside the squared circle. On Aug. 26, Mayweather went toe-to-toe with UFC megastar Conor McGregor for his 50th boxing match up. The highly anticipated cross-promotional fight was predicted to shatter boxing records. While the fight may have not lived to every possible potential, it would appear that the event has broken another record.
As reported by vsin.com, the Las Vegas, Nev. handle record for a boxing match was broken with Mayweather vs. McGregor.
Here is what Michael Lawton, senior research analyst for the Nevada Gaming Control Board had to say on the fight:
“We estimated — from the books we talked to, and that was about 90 percent of the books — there was in excess of $62 million wagered on that fight.”
The previous record was set by the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao event, which drew $50 million.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. earned a TKO victory over Conor McGregor, after the two fighters went toe-to-toe for nine rounds.
