It was less than a year ago that top ranked UFC strawweight contender Karolina Kowalkiewicz was challenging reigning UFC champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the title. Going into the fight Karolina was very confident and despite the loss her stock didn’t seem to drop at all. Kowalkiewicz battled the champion for five tough rounds and earned a lot of respect for her performance against Jedrzejczyk.
“I am a little bit sad, a little bit angry.” Karolina said in an interview with Megan Olivi following UFC 205. “I’m angry at my myself but I’m happy because I do what I love. We give a very good fight and I want a rematch in Poland.”
However, Kowalkiewicz suffered another setback when she was submitted in the first round by Claudia Gadelha at UFC 212 this past June. The loss to Gadelha was her her second consecutive defeat in the octagon, but she looks to have bounced back quite well and is ready to go for this weekend at UFC Fight Night Poland against Jodie Esquibel.
