Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva was initially set to take on Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 212. However, Gastelum failed a drug test for marijuana metabolites and was consequentially pulled from the event. Rescheduled, the two were set to headline UFC Fight Night 122. The event will be the UFC’s debut in Shanghai, China. However, Anderson Silva has since been removed from the event due to a failed drug test.
As a result, the mixed martial arts promotion was forced to scramble for a new main event opponent with just weeks before the big fight. Fresh off of his title ending loss to Georges St-Pierre at UFC 217, Michael Bisping stepped up to fill the headliner slot. Now “The Count” will be taking on Gastelum on just weeks notice.
