UFC welterweight fighter Colby Covington wasn’t just hanging out in Sydney on fight week for fun.
He was there with his teammate Jorge Masvidal on request of the UFC, for fan appearances and events.
Instead of doing the typical UFC media while in Australia, Covington got in a highly publicized street fight with former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum.
Werdum is this weekend’s UFC headliner, and is now due in court in just a few weeks to answer charges of assault.
As a result of all these distractions, the UFC has punished Colby Covington by sending him home.
Ariel Helwani has it:
In light of yesterday’s incident with Fabricio Werdum in Sydney, UFC Sydney guest fighter Colby Covington is being sent home early, I’m told. He’ll be leaving Sydney later today.” said Ariel Helwani on Twitter.
