The Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) held an event in Espoo, Finland this past September. During the event, former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen took on two-time ADCC 145-pound champion Leo Vieira. After no points were scored in their grappling match, Sonnen earned a referee decision victory for the championship. Now, it would appear that the Bellator fighter is looking to take on a former UFC heavyweight champion.
In an interview with Flo Grappling, Chael Sonnen recently decided to put his ADCC title on the line by calling out former UFC heavyweight champion and Brazilian jiu-jitsu phenom Fabricio Werdum.
While Sonnen waits for a response from the former champion, Sonnen is now set to compete in the upcoming Bellator MMA heavyweight grand prix tournament. The tournament will decide the next heavyweight champion of the promotion and will include Fedor Emelianenko, Frank Mir, Matt Mitrione, Roy Nelson, Ryan Bader, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Muhammad Lawal and Chael Sonnen.
Sonnen will go toe-to-toe with Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at Bellator 192 on Jan. 20, 2018 in Inglewood, Calif.
