Daniel Cormier finally got a chance to avenge his loss to former champion Jon Jones when the two MMA warriors met inside the octagon for a rematch at UFC 214. However, things did not go the fighter’s way. Cormier suffered a knockout loss to Jones. Of course, the loss would not remain on Cormier’s record for long.
Jon Jones headlined UFC 214 in his big octagon return, as the fighter was coming off of a year long suspension for a previous failed drug test. Jones then failed his A and B sample drug tests for UFC 214, stripping Jones once again of his title and turning his knockout victory into a no contest.
As a result, Daniel Cormier has once again been awarded the UFC light heavyweight title and the fighter has now taken to Instagram to hint that his next match up is potentially on the rise.
“I’m so excited to do this again. Boys we ready!! @chopper_chi @slikbxr @officialcainvelasquez @lukerockhold #flashback #ufc200 #monsterenergy #weareaka”
Daniel Cormier initially had his sights set on tough contender Volkan Oezdemir. However, Oezdemir was arrested on Saturday for aggravated battery and has been booked in the Broward County jail with a bail of $10,000.
Since the news, fellow division contender Jimi Manuwa has come forward to reveal that he is willing to step in for Oezdemir and take on Cormier.
“If volkans been nicked and can’t make it to the fight. I AM READY @dc_mma @danawhite”
