While Oscar De La Hoya may have been critical of UFC superstar Conor McGregor going on to face Floyd Mayweather Jr., the former boxing champion is now seemingly all for a match up between himself and “Notorious.” That in mind, De La Hoya even thinks he can put out McGregor inside two rounds.
UFC superstar Conor McGregor made his professional boxing debut in August, taking on undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. In the tenth round, Mayweather took out his opponent with a TKO victory. Mayweather has since slipped back into retirement with a perfect record of 50-0.
Since the fight, De La Hoya has come forward to reveal that he has been training in secret and the former boxing champion has now called out Conor McGregor.
Speaking on Dash Radio, De La Hoya said:
“You know I’m competitive. You know I still have it in me. I’ve been secretly training. I’m faster than ever, and stronger than ever. I know I could take out Conor McGregor in two rounds. I’ll come back for that fight. Two rounds.”
“Just one more. I’m calling him out. Two rounds. That’s all I need. That’s all I’m going to say.”
The former champion then admitted that he doubts he could beat McGregor inside the octagon.
“He’s a big Irishman. He’s the king.”
“Hey, let’s get it straight: in the cage, he would freakin’ destroy me. He would destroy me. No, [we have to fight] in the ring.”
