The combat sports world has suffered a terrible tragedy.
Cesar Diaz signed with Golden Boy promotions after accruing a stunning amateur record of 104-11. However, the 20-year-old boxer has since passed away. As reported by the Los Angeles Daily News, Diaz was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-car crash on Friday night in Palmdale, California.
The boxer lost control of his 2016 Honda Accord and the vehicle struck a tree. Diaz was thrown from the vehicle. Diaz’s female passenger was rushed to the hospital with multiple fractures.
Golden Boy promotions offered a statement on the tragic accident.
“Everyone at Golden Boy Promotions is heartbroken over the passing of Cesar Diaz over Thanksgiving weekend. As talented and aggressive as he was in the ring, anyone who met Cesar knew how kind and nice he was outside of it. Our thoughts and prayers are with Cesar’s girlfriend who remains in critical condition and his entire family.”
