It has been a rough month for former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping. “The Count” went toe-to-toe with former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre to defend his middleweight title in the main event of UFC 217. The event was the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s second appearance at the world famous Madison Square Garden in New York. However, things simply did not go Bisping’s way.
Georges St-Pierre choked out Michael Bisping for the middleweight title, bringing an end to “The Count’s” short reign as champion.
Just three weeks removed from his title ending loss, Bisping stepped into the octagon once again. Taking the fight on short notice, “The Count” went toe-to-toe with Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Fight Night 122 in the UFC’s debut in Shanghai, China.
Anderson Silva was initially set to face off against the fighter, but was pulled from the event after being flagged by USADA for a failed drug test. “The Count” stepped up and filled the empty main event slot to take on Gastelum. Once again, things did not end well for Bisping.
Gastelum put Bisping away in the first round with a devastating knockout victory that put “The Count” on a two fight losing streak. Now Bisping is looking to retire from mixed martial arts with one final fight in London, England.
Speaking on his podcast, longtime UFC commentating veteran Joe Rogan recently revealed that he believes its the right move for Bisping. Rogan thinks it may be time for the former champion to retire.
