The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was put in a tough spot recently when one of the headliners of the upcoming UFC 218 fight card was removed from the event. UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway was initially set to make his first title defense against Frankie Edgar. However, Edgar has since been pulled from the fight due to an injury.
As a result, the mixed martial arts promotion entered a scramble to find a replacement opponent for the champion. Many fighters came forward to claim the main event spot, but one in particular stood out. Now, Holloway will be facing none other than former featherweight title holder Jose Aldo.
Holloway’s most recent fight was against Aldo, in which the fighter unified his interim title with a TKO performance over Aldo. One other fighter that attempted to take over the main event position was tough contender Cub Swanson. Taking to Twitter, Max Holloway offered some comfort to the fighter for not being select as his next opponent.
“keep pushing brother. go do what all your fans know you can do and bring dana a silverback so they can’t deny you. ill see you again at the top.”
