Heated bantamweight rivals T.J. Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt were going to face off earlier this year, however Garbandt suffered an injury that pushed the fight back to Saturday’s UFC 217. After the news, Dillashaw attempted to set up a fight with UFC flyweight champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson. “Mighty Mouse” was gearing up for his eleventh consecutive title defense and passed on a match up with the former bantamweight champion for a fight with flyweight contender Ray Borg.
Johnson would go on to defeat Ray Borg with a stunning aerial armbar finish, breaking the coveted UFC record for most consecutive title defenses. Dillashaw went on to face Garbrandt at UFC 217 on Saturday night, earning a TKO finish over the bantamweight champion in the second round. Now the fighter is calling out Demetirous Johnson once again.
In his post-fight interview, Dillashaw decided to shout out that the flyweight champion’s broken UFC record was “fake,” as he believes Johnson should have faced him for the record breaking fight. Now the newly crowned UFC bantamweight champion wants a super-fight with the flyweight division’s dominant title holder.
