T.J. Dillashaw earned back the bantamweight title when he faced off against heated rival and former teammate Cody Garbrandt in the co-main event of UFC 217 in New York. Now, Dillashaw is looking to put on a super-fight with another reigning UFC champion.
Dillashaw has been trying to lock down a match up with UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson for some time now. Johnson recently declined to fight Dillashaw in favor of facing off against flyweight top contender Ray Borg at UFC 216. “Mighty Mouse” earned a dazzling submission finish over Borg, breaking the UFC record for most consecutive title defenses. Now T.J. Dillashaw wants to get in on the action.
While Dillashaw has been looking for a super-fight against the flyweight champion, Demetrious Johnson seems anything but ready to immediately step back into the octagon. Speaking to TMZ Sports about Johnson’s reticence, Dillashaw had the following message for “Mighty Mouse.”
“Don’t be scared, man. Let’s get this done.” said the UFC bantamweight champion. “This is the fight that makes sense for you and me. This is the fight that the fans want to see. This is the fight I want to see. Not sure if you want to see it, but man up and let’s do it.”
