The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has now provided an official statement concerning the recent arrest of light heavyweight contender Volkan Oezdemir.
Oezdemir was arrested by Fort Lauderdale Police on Saturday, Nov. 18, for aggravate battery. The fighter was then booked into the Broward County jail and now has a bail set for $10,000.
Speaking to Bloody Elbow, the UFC offered the following message on Oezdemir’s arrest:
“UFC is aware of the situation involving light heavyweight athlete, Volkan Oezdemir. The organization is in the process of gathering more information and will be monitoring the situation closely before determining if any further action is necessary.”
Daniel Cormier revealed that the 28-year-old mixed martial artist is next on his list of opponents, following a social media poll posted by Cormier to his fans. That being said, it is unclear how the fighter’s recent arrest will affect any potential booking against the champion in the future.
