MMA veteran “The New York Bad Ass” Phil Baroni has seen it all in mixed martial arts. Baroni has been around since the dark ages of the sport and has competed in pretty much every major promotion you can think of. So it should be of no surprise that Phil is pretty excited over the recent announcement of Bellator MMA’s Heavyweight Grand Prix tournament to crown a new champion.
The tournament will feature some of the most familiar names from the past and present, including, Fedor Emelianenko, Frank Mir, Chael Sonnen, Rampage Jackson, Ryan Bader, Roy Nelson, Matt Mitrione and King Mo.
Already announced for a first round fight will be former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir taking on former Pride FC champion Fedor Emelianenko and Matt Mitrione will face Roy Nelson.
Taking to his social media, Baroni applauded Bellator CEO Scott Coker for putting together a heavyweight grand prix while also giving his prediction on who he thinks will be the winner, and new Bellator heavyweight champion.
“I the @BellatorMMA tournament @thefrankmir takes it.Best Hwt our generation. respect @ScottCoker @rich_chou Grand Pri baby”
