UFC bantamweight Augusto Mendes competed at the recent ACB JJ no-gi 60kg grand prix over the weekend. After putting on dominant performance after dominant performance, Mendes ultimately won the belt. Now the fighter has come forward to reveal that competing under Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments is paying out far more than his matches under the UFC.
Speaking to MMA Fighting, Mendes spoke on winning the belt in the recent grand prix.
“It was fun. This is a very dynamic tournament, it’s interesting, and the promotion is growing a lot.”
When asked about the pay from his ACB tournaments compared to his UFC matches, Mendes responded:
“More than twice, to be honest. And I even won two bonuses, fastest submission and best fight (vs. Miyao). I made more than twice in jiu-jitsu.”
Mendes most recently suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Aljamain Sterling at UFC on FOX 24 back in April.
