The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is home to some of the toughest and most talented athletes in the world. Still, the world’s most famous mixed martial arts promotion does not go without its controversies. For instance, one cornerman was caught during a UFC event doing something that her perhaps should not have been up to.
Cornermen have important jobs. Fighters are offered coaching from their cornermen in real time during their match ups, providing each fighter with the best tactical plan for the ensuing brawl. That being said, there are some things that the cornermen are not allowed to do.
At a UFC event, Thales Leites and Sam Alvey put on a war inside the octagon for a crowd of fight fans. Cage side commentator Brian Stann caught something rather peculiar going on between the second and third round of their match up.
Stann pointed out that one of Leites’ cornermen was on the phone during the momentary break from the action. The commentator then explained that it is not unheard of for cornermen to have the audio from their opponent’s corner fed to them over the phone. Grant it, it was then explained that there were a list of other innocuous things the cornerman could have been doing at the time. Still, being called out on a live-broadcast for potentially cheating was perhaps not the greatest part of the fighter’s night.
