It was just this week that Bellator MMA announced the departure of their original ringside announcer Jimmy Smith.
The world’s #2 MMA promotion would then announce that they signed referee “Big” John McCarthy to fill the role.
As Bellator continues to pluck talent from the UFC on the open market, finally a signing has gone the other way.
Bellator has acquired several UFC notables the likes of Benson Henderson, Rory MacDonald,. Chael Sonnen, Tito Ortiz and countless others, and now the UFC has got them back on one.
Joe Rogan publicly stated several times that the UFC needs to sign Smith to their commentary team, and the execs apparently took notice, because that’s exactly what they did.
MMAJunkie.com report Mike Bohn has it:
Jimmy Smith has joined the UFC as a broadcaster, the promotion has announced. Great addition to the staple of talent.
