Bellator MMA put on a stunning night of fights over the weekend, as Bellator 192 went down on Jan. 20. There inside The Forum in Inglewood, Calif, the mixed martial arts promotion hosted a heavyweight war of a main event.
Headlining the fight card, former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and fellow former UFC competitor Chael Sonnen went toe-to-toe in a heavyweight match up. The fight was the first round of the new Bellator heavyweight tournament grand prix.
The grand prix is set to take place over multiple fight cards throughout the year, with the tournament’s winner set to be crowned the champion of Bellator’s heavyweight division.
Sonnen and Jackson ended up going the distance at Bellator 192, with Sonnen walking away with a unanimous decision victory over his opponent. The former UFC fighter then offered some vintage Chael Sonnen style trash-talk in his post-fight interview.
“God made 6 billion men and none of them are as tough as Chael Sonnen. Frank Mir and Fedor Emelianenko, boys, neither one of you are the best. But, one of you is next.” Sonnen stated.
When asked which fighter Sonnen has in mind next, the fighter responded “I have no preference. I’ve got the biggest arms. I’ve got the greatest charm and I do all of the harm.”
Sonnen ended his thought with the statement, “One on one, two on one, or five on one, I’ll make them all need 911.”
