SBG Ireland head coach John Kavanagh has decided to offer the reasoning behind UFC superstar Conor McGregor’s taunting placement of his hand behind his back during high profile fights.
“Notorious” has garnered a hoard of fight fans throughout his entertaining mixed martial arts career. As a superstar in his native Ireland, Conor McGregor has gathered the support of a nation during his tenure with the UFC.
In some of his highest profile fights, McGregor has pulled some impressive feats. For instance, “Notorious” could be seen taunting former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez during their highly anticipated title fight.
McGregor would hold his hand behind his back, gaining the attention of his frustrated opponent. The fighter would go on to incorporate the technique multiple times throughout his career. Now coach John Kavanagh has come forward to explain the situation.
Speaking on The MMA Hour, Kavanagh said:
“McGregor’s right index knuckle was hurt during his UFC 202 fight with Nate Diaz and that was his way of protecting it in training. He found that if he actually held his right hand behind his back, it kind of reminded him not to throw it as much, that’s why he started reaching back and actually grabbing his hand. It was almost like a mental note: take care of the right hand.”
