WWE import CM Punk was one of the most highly hyped UFC fighters in history, ahead of his 2016 UFC 203 debut as a prize fighter.
Looking to capture glory much like his WWE predecessor in Brock Lesnar, the BJJ practitioner was out gunned and outmatched by fellow UFC newcomer Mickey Gall. Not even landing a single punch, and quickly getting submitted in the first round.
CM Punk hasn’t stepped foot inside the cage since, but that appears to be changing, as according to UFC president Dana White, the WWE mega-star wants a chance to redeem himself, and the UFC boss is prepared to give it to him.
Taking to this week’s UFC 220 media week, Dana White told a group of reporters, “I like that guy. He’s a good dude. He wants one more. He wants to get another shot. I’m going to give it to him.”
To his credit, CM Punk has remained training under the world renowned Duke Roufus of the Roufus Sport camp alongside former champions Anthony Pettis and Ben Askren.
But the question still remains, has he learned enough to compete in the world’s most fierce arena, and who can the UFC match him up with in a fair fight.
2018 might be an interesting one.
Stay tuned.
