The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is home to some of the world’s toughest mixed martial arts competitors. As the world’s most famous mixed martial arts promotion, the UFC has become a beacon to which many talented athletes flock to. With that in mind, it is still a hard competition within the promotion’s roster to prove which fighter is truly the best. Now UFC featherweight Jeremy Stephens is fast approaching the coveted record of a mixed martial arts legend.
Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has had a huge impact on the sport of mixed martial arts. The formerly dominant title holder held the record for most consecutive title defenses within the UFC, before UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson broke the record in 2017. Of course, that is not Silva’s only record.
“The Spider” has earned a grand total of 18 knockdowns, making for the most in UFC history. Just behind Anderson Silva is none other than Jeremy Stephens with 16 total.
Silva was recently pulled from a match up due to a failed drug test, leaving little room for the fighter to be competing any time soon. On the other hand, Stephens is set to face off against Doo Ho Choi at UFC Fight Night 124 on Jan. 14. Now it would appear that Stephens has a shot at breaking the coveted record and making his place among the UFC greats.
