Longtime UFC commentating veteran Joe Rogan has decided to offer a critique of rising knockout artist Francis Ngannou’s training following the events of UFC 220.
UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic headlined Saturday night’s, Jan. 20, UFC 220 in Boston, Massachusetts. For the fight, the champion faced off against rising challenger Francis Ngannou.
Miocic put on a dominant performance over his opponent, ultimately earning a unanimous decision victory. Ngannou has since gained some criticism for seemingly having issues with his cardio and his wrestling during the match.
Joe Rogan was cage side for the event and has now decided to offer his thoughts on the matter. Speaking on his podcast the JRE MMA Show, Rogan gave his thoughts on Ngannou’s training for the event.
“Before, everyone was saying, ‘Oh my God, he’s in tremendous shape, everything is amazing,’” Rogan said. “Then afterwards it’s like, ‘Oh, he doesn’t train on the ground.’ What? He doesn’t train on the ground? They go, ‘All he wants to do is strike.’ You can’t let him do that. You can’t let him.
“He’s going to fight a Division-I wrestler,” Rogan continued. “How is he going to do this? How is going to stand up? He’s going to magically get up? You have to train it.”
