The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is in St. Louis, Missouri tonight, Jan. 14, for an exciting night of fights. This time around, the world’s most famous mixed martial arts promotion is in the Scottrade Center for UFC Fight Night 124.
The night’s main event is set to see Doo Ho Choi and Jeremy Stephens enter a featherweight war for the St. Louis crowd. With that in mind, the UFC has entire fight card of entertaining octagon wars set to go down tonight.
Kicking things off, lightweights Mike Santiago and Mads Burnell are throwing down on UFC Fight Pass for fans worldwide.
Burnell wasted no time early in the first round, taking his opponent to the ground. Taking side control, Burnell began to pummel Santiago with some serious ground and pound.
However, Santiago managed to make his way to the fence and pull himself back to his feet.
With just over half of the round left, Santiago managed to lock in a guillotine choke submission attempt from the standing position. However, the fighter was unable to get the finish.
Burnell would go on slam Santiago back down onto the canvas, pummeling the fighter with another series of ground and pound. In the final moments of the round, Santiago managed to reverse the position and get the back of his opponent.
It was seemingly a dead even round, as both fighters landed some good takedowns and significant strikes.
Santiago kicked off the second round with a nice takedown after entering a short exchange on the feet with Burnell.
The two mixed martial arts warriors continued to struggle on the mat halfway through the round, with Burnell finally making it back to his feet. The fighter then swiftly earned another takedown of his own, making his way to the mount position before taking Santiago’s back.
In the final thirty seconds of the round, Burnell locked in a rear-naked choke attempt on his opponent. But, Santiago managed to hold on until the bell.
It was a dominant round for Burnell.
The final round opened at a slower pace, as both fighters appeared somewhat gassed from their intense ten minutes of wrestling. Burnell forced his opponent to the fence in an attempt to take Santiago to the ground.
With half of the round in the books, Burnell managed to get Santiago to the canvas and began dishing out some more ground and pound. However, Santiago offered some brutal strikes from the bottom position that appeared to being dealing significant damage.
With one minute to go, the two fighters were back to their feet and against the fence. This fight has gone the distance.
