The underlying story heading into Saturday’s UFC 220 event was the lack of promotion for the UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.
Instead, the UFC got on the hype train with the challenger Francis Ngannou, calling him things like a, 1 in a million athlete, and the next major star.
The UFC’s investment into the African knockout artist would end up backfiring though, as Ngannou was thoroughly dominated over the course of a one-sided five round scrap.
Taking to the post fight press-conference, top MMA reporter Ariel Helwani asked the champ about his relationship with the UFC, following their direction to promote his opponent, instead of him.
Miocic didn’t hold back, even mocking the UFC president Dana White, who he says denied anything of the sort ever happened.
Miocic stated, “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.”
“I don’t really care. I got so much on the plate right now, I’m so happy. My beautiful wife has our child. I’,m very lucky. I got my coaches here, they’re amazing.”
Part of Ariel’s line of questioning was if Miocic will work towards repairing the relationship with the UFC, and Dana White, and the champion kept it real.
“Listen man, I’m not worried about repairing anything.”
“I called him (Dana White) out when he told me we were butting heads. I called him out, And he was like, ‘What are you talking about?’… “
“He denied it!”

Stipe Miocic has now become the most successful heavyweight champion in UFC history. His dominant win over Francis Ngannou broke the UFC heavyweight title defense record. Something greats like Brock Lesnar, Frank Mir, and Cain Velasquez could not ever do.
He is the “Baddest Man on The Planet”
