UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic is proud to be from Cleveland, Ohio, and equally represents his roots as a Croatian fighter.
Because he embraces both regions, Cleveland has gotten behind their local fireman and resident UFC champion. However, Cleveland isn’t alone in their support for the UFC champ, as the president of Croatia just sent out a public statement on Stipe’s UFC 220 win over Francis Ngannou.
Miocic entered the UFC 220 cage in Boston as a massive underdog to the challenger in Francis Ngannou.
The UFC hype train was in full effect, promoting Ngannou as then next Mike Tyson, and a one in a million athlete.
Miocic though, didn’t get the memo that he was going to lose, and instead shocked the world and extended his winning streak, breaking the UFC heavyweight title defense record in the process.
Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović has been the president of Croatia since 2015. And apparently she was tuned in to watch her fellow Croatian, in Stipe Miocic, beat the odds and retain his belt.
As such, she thought it appropriate to send out the following message to the champion:
BRAVO STIPE MIOCIC!!! Congratulations on winning and baby! ???????
Miocic defeated Francis Ngannou with a unanimous decision. He scored a dominant 50-45 on every judges scorecards after effectively dismantling Francis Ngannou.
During the post-fight press conference, Miocic revealed the only man on his radar, following clearing out his division, and we slid the replay of those comments in the video above, for those interested in more Stipe.
