Report: Khabib vs. Ferguson, Not Mcgregor, In The Works For April 7 UFC Event

The UFC is stuck with a trio of top talent in their lightweight division, and according to a report coming out of Russia, it appears as if Conor McGregor has been excluded from the next step in the title hunt. If true, his exclusion from the immediate UFC schedule shows that plans for his next fight are still uncertain.

Despite holding UFC gold, Conor McGregor has yet to defend his UFC lightweight title even once.

This has prompted UFC president Dana White to give the mega-star a deadline to return to the UFC of March. The UFC boss stated that if Conor does not return by March, the UFC will move on without him and strip him from his world title.

Dana White , in the same breath also said that Conor McGregor would have to face Tony Ferguson in his return bout. However, this new report of a potential Khabib vs. Ferguson title fight might spell trouble for the Irish born fighting star.

If all things are equal, and this new reported bout holds true, it could spell the end of Conor McGregor as UFC champion.

vk.com, a Dagestan media outlet, the same Dagestan that Khabib calls home, is reporting the fight is in the works, stating, ‘HEARING: Habib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson in development on April 7’ (translated)

While this is far from an official announcement, the outlet commonly keeps tabs on their region’s fighters and has become a valid source for news on Khabib, Khabib’s brothers, cousins, and other Dagestani talent.

We will continue to report on the UFC’s lightweight title picture as more reveals itself.

Stay tuned for more breaking updates to the UFC schedule.
