UFC superstar Conor McGregor has pulled in UFC pay-per-view sales breaking numbers for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). That being said, “Notorious” has not competed inside the octagon since winning the lightweight title way back in 2016.
As it turns out, every time McGregor pulls out of a fight card for the world’s most famous mixed martial arts promotion, the UFC looks to lose up to $45 million for the incident.
For instance, “Notorious” was initially set to face off against Nate Diaz for a rematch at UFC 200. After refusing to do press conferences for the event, McGregor was pulled from the highly anticipated fight card.
ESPN’s Darren Rovell has offered some insight into how devastating the removal of “Notorious” from the fight card likely was for the promotion. In his report, McGregor likely lost the company $45 million.
Citing things from the “hang-around crowd” for the event likely being lower by 10,000 due to McGregor’s absence and reveiwing the grand PPV success of McGregor vs. Diaz I, Rovell derives the staggering total as being the overall pull on merchandise and PPV sales that “Notorious” would have had on the event.
While McGregor has not competed inside the octagon since 2016, “Notorious” is now coming off of a TKO loss in his professional boxing debut. The fighter faced a big defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr., but earned the payday of his career in the process with an estimated earned $100 million.
