UFC president Dana White recently revealed that his middleweight champion, Australia’s Robert Whittaker was in serious medical condition, after a Staph infection in his stomach moved to his internal organs.
The UFC president told Canada’s TSN, “He had staph infection in his stomach,” White said. “From what I understand it wasn’t treated properly and started to eat away at parts of his organs.
“He’s in serious condition, so it’s going to be a minute before he’s back, I think. Hopefully it turns around quick, but that stuff is life threatening if not treated the right way.”
Up until White’s reveal, we did not know why Whittaker was forced out of his February 10 main event title fight against Luke Rockhold.
The UFC moved on without him, booking Yoel Romero in the main event, and opting in on a middleweight interim belt in the process.
With Dana White’s statement about Whittaker being in serious condition, now public, Whittaker himself decided to give an update of his own.
